Il violista irlandese Martin Moriarty è riconosciuto come uno dei musicisti più importanti della sua generazione, con una brillante carriera internazionale come solista e musicista da camera in Europa, Asia e nelle Americhe. Vincitore di premi all’Amsterdam Viola Festival Competition, del Flax Trust Award al Clandeboye Chamber Music Festival e della Peter Pirazzi Stiftung, si è esibito con orchestre come la Baden-Baden Philharmonic sotto la direzione di Pavel Baleff e l’Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Nel 2022 ha eseguito la prima ceca del Concerto per viola di James MacMillan con la Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, diretta da Marc Kissoczy.

Molto attivo anche come orchestrale, Martin collabora regolarmente con la Mahler Chamber Orchestra, la Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra e la Irish Chamber Orchestra. Si è inoltre esibito come prima viola ospite con ensemble quali CHAARTS Chamber Artists, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, la Belgian National Orchestra e Camerata Freden.

Convinto sostenitore della musica contemporanea, ha presentato in prima esecuzione e collaborato a opere di compositori come Brett Dean, Gabriel Prokofiev, Helena Winkelman, Sam Perkin, Seán Doherty, Raymond Deane, John Kinsella, Oene van Geel, Sebastian Fagerlund e Thomas Beijer. Sarà presente nella registrazione Wind Songs, contenente nuove opere di Garth Knox, in uscita nel luglio 2026.

Didatta esperto e appassionato, Martin ha tenuto masterclass presso il Bard College (New York), il Conservatorio Reale di Anversa, il Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, il ConCorda Chamber Music Course e l’Ortús Chamber Music Festival a Cork. Dal 2022 viene invitato ogni anno dalla National Concert Hall di Dublino a collaborare al suo International Master Course, lavorando con artisti di spicco come Gwendolyn Masin, Mihaela Martin, Lars Anders Tomter, Frans Helmerson, Mark Gothoni, Máté Szücs, Adrian Brendel, Silke Avenhaus, Hyeyoon Park, Hartmut Rohde, Ulrich Witteler, Hisako Kawamura, Lena Neudauer, Tomoko Akasaka, Guy Johnson e Oliver Schnyder.

Martin è stato il primo musicista irlandese selezionato come solista alla Verbier Festival Academy (2018 e 2019), dove ha studiato con Tabea Zimmermann, Antoine Tamestit, Ferenc Rados, Gábor Takács-Nagy, András Keller e Pamela Frank. Dal 2021 al 2024 è stato inoltre il primo musicista irlandese a ricevere una borsa dalla Villa Musica Foundation in Germania.

A passionate advocate of contemporary music, he has premiered and collaborated on works by composers including Brett Dean, Gabriel Prokofiev, Helena Winkelman, Sam Perkin, Seán Doherty, Raymond Deane, John Kinsella, Oene van Geel, Sebastian Fagerlund, and Thomas Beijer. He will feature on the recording Wind Songs, comprising new works by Garth Knox, to be released in July 2026.

An experienced and dedicated teacher, Martin has given masterclasses at Bard College (New York), the Royal Conservatory Antwerp, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, ConCorda Chamber Music Course, and Ortús Chamber Music Festival in Cork. Since 2022, he has been invited annually by the National Concert Hall Dublin to assist in its International Master Course, collaborating with distinguished artists including Gwendolyn Masin, Mihaela Martin, Lars Anders Tomter, Frans Helmerson, Mark Gothoni, Máté Szücs, Adrian Brendel, Silke Avenhaus, Hyeyoon Park, Hartmut Rohde, Ulrich Witteler, Hisako Kawamura, Lena Neudauer, Tomoko Akasaka, Guy Johnson, and Oliver Schnyder.

Martin was the first Irish musician selected as a soloist for the Verbier Festival Academy (2018 and 2019), where he worked with Tabea Zimmermann, Antoine Tamestit, Ferenc Rados, Gábor Takács-Nagy, András Keller, and Pamela Frank. From 2021 to 2024, he was also the first Irish musician to be awarded a stipend by the Villa Musica Foundation in Germany.
