Moritz huemerMoritz Huemer was born in 1999 in Feldkirch, Austria, and grew up in Liechtenstein. He began cello lessons at the age of five with Josef Hofer at the Liechtenstein Music School.
From 2015 to 2018, he was a young student in the class of Rafael Rosenfeld at the Music Academy Basel, while simultaneously attending the Gymnasium in Feldkirch, where he completed his Matura in 2018. After four years studying with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2022. Since autumn 2022, he has been studying with Jens Peter Maintz at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
He has also taken masterclasses with Thomas Grossenbacher and David Geringas. From 2022 to 2024, he was a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, where he studied under Olaf Maninger. His first professional position was as deputy principal cellist at the Komische Oper Berlin. In May 2025, he joined the cello section of the Berlin Philharmonic, and thus became one of the 12 cellists.
