The Original Villa: A History

The La Romantica Chamber Series takes its name from the original Villa La Romantica, built in 1835 by Leopoldo Galli as a lakeside residence admired for its late-classicist elegance and harmonious design. Over the years, the villa became a cherished landmark in Melide, a place where generations enjoyed the beauty of Lake Lugano and the refined architecture of the building. Inspired by the villa’s historic and cultural significance, the local chamber series adopted the name ‘La Romantica’ to honor its legacy.

The Hotel and Continuing Legacy

Later, the site was thoughtfully transformed into a modern lakeside hotel, which also retained the name ‘La Romantica.’ The hotel continues to celebrate the spirit of the villa, offering contemporary comfort, stunning lake views, and new ways for visitors and residents to experience this historic corner of Melide. Together, La Romantica Chamber Series and the Swiss Diamond Boutique Hotel - La Romantica preserve the villa’s legacy, keeping its name and cultural significance alive for generations to come.
